Control Anger with Yoga

Yoga is a wonderful resource which helps us to feel physically fitter, stronger and suppler, but yoga is more than just a fitness regime, its' a complete system for health and this includes our emotional and physical wellbeing. Healthy living today can be difficult as we have so many stresses and demands on our time, we can become angry, irritated and bitter which can quickly get out of control, however we can control anger with yoga simply and effectively.

When anger starts to become a normal reaction for us then we need to take action as anger destroys our peace of mind and we experience complete mental turmoil and a sense of frustration whilst we let anger rule our emotions. We can control anger with yoga by changing our mindset and how we react to situations that occur. Anger is very bad for our health, it goes hand in hand with stress and the general opinion of the medical community appears to be currently that 90% of illnesses occur through stress.

Yoga can helps us to turn our attention inwards and think about why we are experiencing anger, we shouldn't turn away from it or bottle up the emotions, and we need to experience it fully. We can control anger with yoga techniques so as to reflect on how we are feeling and why we are feeling it. Learning to deal with the cause and the effect simultaneously is vital. Once we have established the cause, we are able to look at the whole scenario through the eyes of a witness, rather than as a participant, this usually will enable us to let the anger dissipate.

Yoga teaches us to work with the breath and practicing to release the tension once we have acknowledged it, is paramount. Simple breathing techniques can help us to gain control of ourselves such as:

- Breathe in deeply and exhale several times
- If our shoulders feel tight, relax them by shrugging them
- Eyes should be closed
- We should breathe in through our nose imagining a blue healing light
- Retain the breath for a count of three and then exhale through the mouth
- Imagine the healing blue light releasing the anger, carrying it away with every exhalation, if it helps, picture the anger as a colour and in various shapes so that you can mentally visualise the anger leaving your body.

If we learn to control anger with Yoga , we soon realise that it can help to control many emotions including how to manage stress and it also increases our potential to problem solving; we simply need to trust in this age old system so that we can improve our ability to control our inner angst.
