Pregnancy Yoga Classes

Pregnancy yoga classes offer many benefits to those women who would like to become fitter and stronger in mind, body and spirit and it is important to know that a yoga practice can be started at any time before and even after discovering the pregnancy. If there is little or no experience in yoga and the postures, then pregnancy yoga classes are important and a good yoga teacher will ensure that the student only practices those postures which are beneficial and will not cause any problems depending on the stage of the pregnancy. Attending the pregnancy yoga classes regularly will help with increased health and vitality of the pregnant woman.

There are many benefits which can be obtained by attending a pregnancy yoga class such as:

- Keeping the metabolism stable
- Increasing the level of energy
- Relieving cramp and fluid retention
- Can also reduce morning sickness and mood swings associated with pregnancy
- Massages the abdomen which can stimulate bowel action
- Relieves tension and stress
- Relieves tension around the birth canal
- Opens up the pelvis to allow for an easier labour.

Some postures will not be practical as the pregnancy progresses and the knowledge as to which postures are safe to practice should only come from a qualified yoga teacher who is experienced at teaching pregnant women. In addition to attending a pregnancy yoga class it is important to continue having regular practice sessions whilst at home. For obvious reasons of course, only those postures previously practiced in the class should be practiced elsewhere.

There are many benefits to attending a pregnancy yoga class and an additional benefit has to be meeting other like-minded pregnant women who believe in looking after themselves in a holistic manner. Even those who have started late into their pregnancy have found the gentle and natural movements associated with yoga to be instrumental in increasing health, flexibility as well as strength. There are also many other benefits such as emotional and mental well-being and joining a pregnancy yoga class can be a stepping stone to fulfilment.
