Raja Yoga

Raja yoga also known as royal yoga is considered to be the yoga of meditation and is sometimes called the eight-limbed yoga but this is not to be mistaken or confused with Ashtanga yoga as the disciplines are completely different. Most people, who have an interest in studying the path of yoga, start their journey with the physical yoga (Hatha) because it has long been considered that the body must be tamed before the mind can begin its own journey. The body must be in good physical condition so that the mind can focus separately and this is because that every thought or action that we undertake in life, will have an effect on us similar to a ripple in a pond.

With all of the problems that most people experience on a daily basis, being able to control the mind and all of its conflicting thoughts and feelings is of great benefit. Because Raja yoga is thought to be the king of all of the types of yoga, it is easy to appreciate that the benefits of studying meditation are incredibly vast.

There are many good books which regale all of the benefits likely to be experienced through learning Raja yoga, and there are also those books which detail step by step instruction and the history of the style to-date. Information on this king of styles is available on the Internet as well and it is certainly worth accessing as much details on the practical aspects of raja, so that a certain comprehension is clear before commencing study.

Raja yoga helps lead the practitioner to a state of higher bliss and although books or DVDs' on the subject are beneficial, it is even better if the student can attend a class with a qualified teacher who can guide the way to enlightenment. The most difficult part of learning the meditational path is accessing the knowledge of how to quieten the busiest of minds. Raja yoga can help to combat the stresses of everyday life by focussing on the breath and using the breath to control and eliminate worries and concerns in a productive way.

Although Raja yoga may be difficult to follow initially, perseverance leads the practitioner to success and a new way of healthy living.
