Teaching Yoga to Children

If you are a regular fan of yoga and enjoy the benefits that you receive as a reward for regular practice sessions, then don't forget that teaching yoga to children can be a great way to ensure that they are learning a healthier lifestyle from a very young age.

Yoga shows children how to have better awareness, have increased balance in their lives and by teaching yoga to them whilst they are still so flexible, means that they get to keep their flexibility. Other benefits such as increased alertness, mental clarity and a sense of calmness are all qualities that will stay with the children throughout every aspect of their lives.

Even if not a qualified yoga instructor, teaching yoga and all of its benefits to your own children is one of the best gifts that can be bestowed and this is because, yoga is not simply a set of measured exercises; it is a way of life.

Yoga offers a wide range of benefits which ensures that every aspect of life itself can be met with a quiet assured confidence and this is due to the following resources contained within the yoga practice in general:

- Postures - asana's that stretch, tone and strengthen every part of the body.
- Breathing exercises - helps to ensure a regular supply of life giving oxygen is provided.
- Relaxation techniques - ensures that children learn how to isolate tension and eliminate it at will
- Visualisation/ meditation techniques - help to be motivational, calm, and tranquil and obtain inner peace.

Yoga has even been known to help those children who are attention deficit or who suffer with hyperactivity and this is because it works on the individual as a whole, offering complete mind, body and spirit unity. This after all, is not surprising, since yoga does mean union.

When teaching yoga to young people, it is important to teach them the non-competitive qualities as well as teaching them to work together to achieve postures. Making it fun however, is essential so that children remember a powerful and positive system which will help them right the way through life.
