The Benefits of Keeping a Yoga Journal
We all live in a faster paced society today, one where time is of a premium and we rush from task to task, struggling to fit our everyday chores in as well as investing a little time in our health and well-being by studying yoga. Although our bodies will depict the advancement of our flexibility and also clearly show that our health has vastly improved, keeping a yoga journal can become an important part of the daily practice.
A yoga journal can be a wonderful aid to any practice because it can record how each session affects the body, how specific poses felt during the session, how difficult or easy they were and of course, how you felt after the yoga session. Yoga after all, is about being in tune with our inner being so having a written record which can be referred to time and time again, can only offer great benefits.
It is worth considering your yoga journal to be an extension of your practice and not as a separate entity. It need only take an additional five or ten minutes to make some brief notes about how you are feeling to gain a much greater understanding as to how yoga can make great changes to your life. Sometimes others may wish to see your journal for themselves, after all, capturing your journey on the yogic pathway is written evidence of all of the benefits you will have experienced en-route and for others to share in your successes, may inspire them to take up yoga as well.
Stress is a factor which can be greatly improved by undertaking regular yoga sessions and as stress is a factor which affects the majority of the population on a frequent basis, it can be interesting to record how much easier it will have been to cope with the usual daily stresses easily and without it impacting either mind or body. Buy a blank book for your yoga journal, one which you instinctively feel drawn to as this will encourage you to continuously add to the records even when there may be times when you feel tired or have other commitments.
