Yoga Books

Yoga books offer a great deal of information which can help those who are keen to learn more about this fascinating exercise system. Yoga books can be extremely useful in the early stages of study because they are suited for all levels of experience and although there are some specifically written for the novice, there are those yoga books which detail a wide spectrum of information and postures suitable for beginner through to advanced.

All of the poses should be clearly displayed so that it makes it as easy as possible for the practitioner to study the postures and to emulate them. Because there are so many different types of yoga books published, it is worth taking your time to find the right type of book for you.

Yoga books should detail as much of the following as possible:

- An introduction to yoga, the history and the origins so that you can comprehend the background and ethics of the exercise system.
- Health benefits of each pose - including all the organs and muscle groups which are being exercised.
- Photographs showing the postures in varying maximum positions which will make it easier to copy the poses.
- Detailed practice plans so that each session is varied and exercises different muscle groups thus helping the body to ease into greater flexibility and fitness. Some books will also have moderate and advanced practice plans so that progression is ensured.
- Breathing techniques- learn a variety of breathing techniques which will help to combat stress, tension and even headaches.
- Introduction to relaxation techniques and meditation.

If you are part of a yoga group or have friends who are also enthusiastic about yoga, then they may have books which they would recommend on a personal level. Yoga books can be fairly expensive although considering the use each individual book receives during many practice sessions, then it is a worthwhile expense. It is possible to swap or share books to avoid any large purchases; however, it is worthwhile searching through second hand stores, and although some may be a little battered and worn, the contents of the yoga books remain.
